Voter ID laws are modest and reasonable measures that try to ensure that the people voting are who they say they are. Proponents have bent over backwards trying to satisfy opponents with provisions for free IDs, easier registration and other measures, but opponents have been implacable, among other things, calling proponents racists for supporting Voter ID measures.
